The breast cancer prevention diet

In the United States, 35 out of every 1000 women will die of breast cancer, while in Thailand and Sri Lanka this only occurs in 3 out of 1000 women.  We now know that diet and physical activity protect thousands of women in Japan, China, Thailand and Africa.

“The Asian diet is high in fiber, fruit and vegetables, and low in alcohol and saturated fats,” explains Dr. Steve Clinton of the Cancer Center at Harvard. 

In the spring of 1998 the hope of preventing breast cancer through proper diet was born.  That spring is when Dr. John Glaspy of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, Los Angeles conducted a study implanting cancerous cells in laboratory mice.  When the mice received a diet rich in Omega 6 fatty acids, coming from corn and sunflower oil, the tumors developed rapidly.  However, when they received a diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, coming from fish oils, the tumors diminished notably.

Dr. Lilian Thompson of the University of Toronto conducted a scientific test to see if cancer could be reversible.  She found that the size of tumors decreased in women who daily consumer linseeds.  This seed has become one of the most popular seeds in America as an important source of two basic elements for health: Omega 3 fatty acid and fiber.
